THE HCNE HEADACHE FELLOWSHIP

The HCNE Headache Fellowship is a one-year post-graduate training program in the art and science of care for patients with headache disorders. The Fellowship provides a unique opportunity to learn from multiple acknowledged leaders in the field of headache medicine, including specialists in neurology, psychiatry, and psychology.

Fellowship Setting

The Fellowship training will take place at the clinical sites of the Directors of HCNE in the northeast region (see below). The Fellow will be encouraged to spend extended time at any of the HCNE sites to gain direct clinical experience with diverse styles of inpatient and outpatient management of disorders of headache and facial pain. The Fellow will also be encouraged to participate in mentored clinical or translational research projects including management of cooperative clinical trials across HCNE sites. The Fellowship will be administratively based in the Department of Neurology at the University of Vermont, College of Medicine, where the Fellow will maintain a continuity clinic.

Grant

The Fellowship will extend for twelve months with a projected start date of July 1 annually. The Fellow will receive a stipend of U.S. $50,000, and full fringe benefits including malpractice coverage, appropriate state licensures, some travel support to rotate through HCNE sites, and support to attend two HCNE regional educational symposia and one national meeting of the American Headache Society. The Fellowship is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.

Application Procedure

Applications will be competitively considered from graduates of any ACGME-accredited residency program who are eligible for medical licensure in the relevant states by the start of the Fellowship. Applicants should submit an application form (see below), a curriculum vitae, a personal statement of experience and intent with respect to the field of headache disorders, and three letters of recommendation from senior physicians or scientists very familiar with their qualifications, including one from the Department Chairperson or Program Director of their residency.
